Ana Miralles.- La composición pasó por muchas vicisitudes hasta que se consiguió su forma definitiva. Bono montó los acordes durante la gira de The unforgettable fire y en 1985 Larry Mullen, Jr. la rescató de entre un buen montón de material aparcado. The Edge consideraba esa primera versión literalmente «horrible» y a Adam Clayton le parecía demasiado sentimental y muy tradicional.

La banda continuó trabajando la canción en estudio creando muchísimas variaciones e incluso dos productores que intentaron complacer a todo el grupo con sus arreglos en 1986, abandonaron tras lo infructuoso de su tarea. Muchos cambios más después, algunas discusiones mediante y sobre todo cuando primero The Edge y luego Bono, descubrieron el sonido de una guitarra infinita, la canción llegó a ser tal y como la conocemos hoy.

Hay distintas interpretaciones sobre el sentido de la canción, desde una balada para romper una relación a una charla con Dios, pasando por una simple broma de Bono tras ver en televisión una boda indú. Pero es que es de esa letras que dicen sin decir nada concreto y que se presta a dejar volar la imaginación.

Existen dos vídeos distintos, este que incluye imágenes sobreimpresionadas de la bailarina y cónyuge de The Edge, Morleigh Steinberg, y una versión alternativa que se puede encontrar en la versión Super Deluxe del álbum.
